The “Bangalow” home design takes it’s inspiration from traditional Australian country architecture, particularly in the selection of materials and expression of design elements. The traditional styling is mixed with some subtle contemporary design elements such as the corner windows and sloping veranda posts with exposed rafters.
The real hero of the design is the loft space over the living areas to provide a real sense of openness and light. The master bedroom is upstairs in the loft space, closed off by shutters.
The ideal external materials for this design would be real timber cladding contrasted with zincalume corrugated cladding, zincalume or grey colorbond roofing and powdercoated windows.
The ideal North side of the living areas open right up to the large wrap around veranda, bringing the indoors and outdoors together. The upper windows bring plenty of light into the house and warmth in winter. The large overhangs help to keep out the unwanted summer heat.
The living areas are open plan, allowing flexibility in furnishing and free flowing of all spaces, including opening up to the outdoors nicely. There is no wasted space in the design.
There is plenty of opportunity for your own expression with furnishings and decoration, the clean interior spaces provide a great canvas for your artwork and furniture. The height of the space in itself is artistic and different to standard homes.
The construction of the house is economical and simple – slab lower floor, timber stud framed walls, timber framed loft floor and timber framed roof, all with light weight cladding.
Floor area of the 4 bedroom Bangalow design is 173 sq m, patios are 63 sq m. The garage for this design would be free standing and can be designed in the same style of the house as required or an off the shelf kit garage.
